I am a computational biologist interested in understanding what controls cellular behaviour during development, homeostasis and disease, and how this is affected by perturbations like drugs or disease-causing mutations. For this, I use mathematical modelling, theory, and experimental data analysis. I enjoy collaborating with experimentalists and diving into new areas. This has brought me to work on a range of problems in signal transduction, gene regulation and cellular decision-making, using yeast, bacteria, Drosophila and mammalian cells as experimental models. Ultimately, I hope my research will help unravel the mysteries and puzzles of biology and improve our ability to interpret and manipulate biological systems for synthetic biology and biomedical applications.

I have constantly combined research with teaching and mentoring. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and passion about computational biology, learning from teaching, and it is my pleasure to help others develop to their highest potential.

Outside work, I like spending time in nature, and share good meals with family and friends.

Giorgio Ravanelli
PhD student (Sept.2023-)
During my bachelor’s I received an extensive wet lab education in molecular biology that eventually ended with the explosion of the 2020 pandemic. During this period of forced reclusion, I started developing interest in programming and system biology and I discovered the world of mathematical modelling in biology. This interest together with my research period in the laboratory of Jeremy Gunawardena at Harvard, completely deviated me to a theory fanatic.
